Solar Heating for Evaporation and Drying
Solar Heating, Solar Lighting and Concentration Technologies are used to make salt from sea water, heating, airconditioning, etc. This Solar Heating system uses concave and convex dishes, troughs, Sheffler reflectors to process heat for industrial and commercial purposes. Another Solar Heating project in the USA called the STEP – Solar Total Energy Project, has a field of 114 concave dishes. These reflectors supply 50% of the airconditioning, process heating and electrical requirements for a clothing factory. STEP is connected to the grid and supplies 450 kW of electricity in addition to the thermal energy in the form of 470 kW of chilled water & 410 kW steam and has a one hour peak load thermal storage. Shallow pools are used for evaporation to concentrate dissolved salts in solution. They are used on industrial scale where brine solutions used in removing dissolved solids from water, leach mining and other mining processes.
